Here are the comments left by The Rankins fans in 1999. the rankins are wonderful. i am wondering if anyone can tell me the correct lyrics for
jimmy mo mhile stor? i have got to know! the rankins and chieftains performed my favourite
version of the tune hey great job kimberely,i really enjoy the layout here--as for the rankins breaking
up,well they're maritimers and i bet like all maritimers they will all be together
again.Keep up doing the good work kimberely i enjoy your zeal for this love of yours.
peter Hi! I don't know if the Rankins ever read these comments or not, but if they do I would
like to say hi from my whole family. I have met the Rankins before backstage at one of
their concerts, and they are so nice! My dad's family comes from Cape Breton, and they
were actually neighbours with the Rankin family! Everyone in my dad's family grew up with
the Rankins, and they were great friends! I've always thought that was so cool because
they are by far my favourite group. I have every CD they have ever made, and I am so sad
that they have broken up. I think this website is great, and I hope that it will be a
lasting tribute to the Rankin Family, who will always be the best band there ever was. What I hate the most is that I'm not going to see them in concert anymore, EVER! :o(
but will still sing along in my car my fave tunes if I want 2 :o) and about this site, the
interactivity is Super Freakeh.. I attended your symphony in vancouver which i enjoyed very thouroughly i am so glad i
got to talk to you for a minute while you signed my c.d. which i am listening to right now
thank you for sharing your very beautifull voices -Tiffany(13 years old) i have just found this site and it is easyer to use than the other one. hope the group
will do a tour in scotanld either as individuals or just the girls. jimmy. Great site! Nice having all the info in one place. And all the fan interaction pages
make this a site that you want to come back to. Keep it up! I had the great pleasure of seeing the Rankins here in Calgary, as well as twice at the
Stampede. No matter what the venue, be it a concert hall or an outdoor stage, they always
put on a great show, and I will be sad to see them go...best of luck to all of them, for
whatever the future may hold! Perhaps a reunion album? Sorry to hear the Rankins are calling it quits. I went to a show in Calgary, AB and one
a couple of years ago in Lethbridge, AB. As a Cape Bretoner myself (Boisdale, Cape Breton)
I was proud to say they were maritimers as well. Great job. Will miss you. Renee
(O'Handley) Rudolph Saw the Hamilton concert Thursday night. They're were some truly stunning moments.
Cookie's rendition of "One Day" was a highlight for me, as was one of the John
Morris/Howie duets (but danged if I know what it was called). The encore (Mull River
Shuffle) included a truly inspired version of "Honky Tonk Woman" by Jimmy.
Jimmy, incidentally, seemed to be having WAY too much fun and even John Morris was howling
watching him. The entire show was very high energy and upbeat. On a less positive note, I
missed Raylene's voice more than I thought I would. They were lacking in a richness in the
harmonies, and it was noticeable. Also, they were not on stage long enough for my liking
and the warm up acts truly sucked. I went to the Rankin concert in Hamilton at Copps Colliseum last night. Wow!!!!What a
concert. The opening acts were good but too long to wait to see the group we all came to
see. It was worth the wait!! They were amazing. I've never seen Jimmy have so much energy!
I got to go up to the stage and take some pictures and I hope they come back good ones. I
will send them to Kimberley when I get them. It was nice to see them before the break-up.
I did get to see them 4 times over the years and have all of their albums to enjoy them
for years to come. I also got to meet my friend Linda whom I met over the this internet
site. She is wonderful and I hope to carry our friendship forever. Thanks for putting this
site together where people can come and meet new friends and appreciate and enjoy the best
musical group known to man, The Rankins!!!! Julie Trottier arielt@sprint.ca If anyone out there has spoken to the Rankins since the news of the split or is off to
the final show this week I'd love to hear from you.Over here there seems to be no
information about the group-if it wasn't for Kimberley I probably would not have known of
the break-up! I would like to post my great disappointment hearing the news of the breakup of the
group. I cannot possibly imagine anyone who can sing the way they do. My personal favorite
is Heather, with her bright beautiful voice she made North Country one of my favorite
albums. In addition her beauty will always have a place in my heart. Also sad to see
Raylene leaving earlier, she carried such vibrance and spirit of the group. Cookie's sharp
and clear voice along with Jimmy's lovely ballad singing will be well missed. I believe
the group is only 'getting started' as they have touched on new material that can still be
developed. As we all know, family harmony can be a delicate balance, but I hope they can
see forming a group again in the future. By the way, If you haven't listened to 'Do you
Hear', a Christmas album by Heather, Cookie, and Raylene. I highly recommend it, it's
excellent! I am sad to see the Rankins go, but I have wonderful memories of concerts, TV
interveiws, and everything else this wonderful group has given us as fans. We are lucky
they decided to share their superb talent with us at all, and their music will live on. I
wish the group success in their different activities:Acting, singing, etc. I can only pray
some day the Rankins will see what a powerful impact on us, and share with us their
talents again. I wish I could say it will be easy to forget what good music the group's
put out, but in my mind, I'll be humming the songs for at least the next twenty years!
Good luck to the Rankins, and may God grant them the many blessings the hardworking group
deserves:Happiness and Fortune. Well, like lots of other people I'll really miss them--I saw and met them in Bristol
(UK)in April. They were amazing on-stage and friendly off-stage.Their sound is totally
unique and whilst I wish them all good luck for the future (and thanks for the music they
have given)I hope that in the not too distant future they can distance themselves from
whatever problems they currently have and realise that within their field there is nobody
to match them.I feel sure that if they are aware of their position in the world of music
they will come together again for recording and the ocassional concerts. You know what, us Rankin fans have been pretty lucky, I mean listen to all our stories.
The Rankins have given a lot it's about time they took a little back. I wish them luck.
Thanks for the life long friendships I have made because of the websites, because we all
appreciate good music. The rankins definately are the best thing to have cme out of the
East Coast. Am so glad I was able to watch the band perform in Seattle on Sept 4th. Will miss the
energy and great music. A possible (hopefully) reunion tour in a few years appears to be
one bright spot. I' m really sorry that the Rankins stop beeing The Rankins. I' m sure each member of
the family will never be musically uprooted, but I will surely miss the musical group they
formed ... I'm sorry to see the Rankins call it quits as a group, but I'm sure they'll reunite
down the line, or at least do some projects as a group. On the bright side, though, it
will be fascinating to watch for Heather Rankin in any acting roles she obtains, and to
wait for any new projects that Cookie finds herself a part of. The talent that the Rankins
share as a group will be missed, but the talent that each member has brought to the group
as an individual will continue to grow and develop in exciting ways, down unique paths. Hey guys. Just relishing in the Rankins before they're gone. StarBuck Thanks for the internet and ever changing new technologies, the world is certainly
getting smaller even with cultural sense. People learn more about other people's life
styles, enlightenments, and so forth. But this corner of the world where I live, Seoul,
Korea, I have to say I am way too far away from the main stream for the music I love.
Clear evedent for this is I don't hear about the Rankins anywhere; neither on the air ways
nor any record shops carry their music. Being a person crazy about the music, I feel lost,
and I long for any kind of information: what they do these days, or where they touring if
they are touring, or had they cut another CD, or any new merchandise came out, or nay new
music book, list can go on. And here I found the site just for that. Thanks for the
wonderful site, I fill my dose of information from right here. Many thanks to Kimberley,
not only all the things she puts up here, but with her help, I was able to get some of
missing CD's for my collection. I've never had a chance to see their concerts as yet, but
I am waiting. I know this music can be liked and spread about even in Asian countries like
here in Korea. Everyone who heard, they loved it. I brought and played the Uprooted once
in my office, and all asked about it. My dream now is there so many fans around Asia and
the band will have a concert here. That will be the day of my dream come true. This website is great...you can hear the music and get all of the info..super job.:))) You guys are fantastic.....We gotta do whatever we collectively can to let the world
know about our precious Rankins. I'm a displaced Cape Bretoner and Fare Thee Well Still
brings tears to my eyes. My Parents are so lucky since they get to see you guys regularly
and My Dad has even played guuitar with Jimmy in my Parents RV in Big Pond. There is No
group, duet or Single Artist that is able to produce the harmonies that The Rankins do. I
have been a fan since the beginning and we have a mutual friend as well that keeps me
somewhat up to date on the group. I hope that The Rankins will come to Montreal soon. The
culture here is similar to home and the music, if promoted here, would go like gang
busters. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK Nice Site too by the way....... Rankins
Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Joe I have seen this site and smiled.I was mixing and recording the album Uprooted.I have a
son and he gets to spend time in the studio. I was about 11 years old when my father wanted the Rankin Family to play at his 25th
Wedding Anniversary party. He booked the family (through their parents I believe) and it
was their 1st road trip. They lived in, of course, Cape Breton and we were living on
Prince Edward Island. They were good then, but wow are they great now. I love their music
and it reminds me of 'home'. Great site Kimberley! Alot of work. Thanks for providing a
site to keep me informed of my favorite 'hometown' group. Dear Rankins, My name is Heidi Lahey,I am in grade 12.I live on a small Island called
Grand Manan.I have all your tapes and really love them. I have been a fan of yours for
years, ever since we got cmt on cable you are the only ones i enjoy listing to.my wall in
my bedroom is covered with all your pictures i have found on the internet and your fan

have sent me.I hope you come to Saint John N.B.for a concert i would really love to see
you in concert and hopefully get a back stage pass. I got to see Faith Hill in concert and

want to see more than anything.I hope my wish comes true. well i have to go now but i will
write to you again soon. P.S.-I THINK YOUR THE BEST.I LOVE YOU ALL!! Love:Heidi Lahey I just saw the Rankins for the first time last night in Seattle. In my 35 years of
being alive I have never experienced anything like the show that I saw. The voices, the
dancing, the harmony, the songs all absolutely incredible! I was, and still am, blown
away! Great job. You have a new fan, that can't wait to see you again. I would love to be
notified when you will return! I just saw the Rankins for the first time last night in Seattle. In my 35 years of

Oakville. I cried when you came on stage. To see you has been my dream for the last seven
years. P.S. PLEASE come to QUEBEC! I really like your singing, especially "Fare Thee Well". Keep up the good
sounds. Why aye ya bugger man! (as we say in Newcastle). Any Northumbrian Rankin admirers out
there? well this is a good site for info and hey with a link form the official web page of the
rankins then it must be good. Great site...thanx for all the hard work and news and pix! The Rankins are a breath of fresh air for an American who is worn out by the pop and
country music being produced in the U.S. Thanks for the info on projects that The Rankins
have worked on with other artists! I was able to find these wonderful collaborations,
usually released in the States, when it is nearly impossible to find many of the Rankins'
Canadian-released cds. Well, thanks again for the site and the info! Hi there, and thanks to Kimberley for this great site .. news on the band is pretty
hard to come by over here in the UK, so it helps me keep in touch with where they're at
and hopefully when they're coming back over here again. I'd be very pleased to hear from
any other UK fans living over this way, so please get in touch. See'ya .. Steve Very nice site! How lovely to see a page about the Rankins. I had thought they were something of an
undiscovered secret. How disappointing to learn that they are continuing leaning toward
nasty country-western music. Their Celtic stuff is so beautiful. Combine it with rock,
jazz/blues, Asian, whatever - just, please, please, no country-western, polka, or Sousa
marches! ;-) This site has some pretty interesting pictures and hey the info. sure helps a lot.
Rankins are the best. Missy Nothin' wrong with this site Hippy...it's got more stuff. Stuff is good. I liked the other site better. Welcome to the Rankins Website. Enjoy! |
