2011 Music Nova Scotia Award Nominees Announced

Halifax, Nova Scotia – Let the voting begin for the 2011 Music Nova Scotia Awards! This year’s public vote for Entertainer of the Year, presented by Bell Aliant, begins today at www.musicnovascotia.ca. Fans can vote online from September 6 until September 29 one of the following nominees: Jenn Grant, Carmen Townsend, David Myles, Jimmy Rankin, or Three Sheet.
Carmen Townsend, Jenn Grant and Jimmy Rankin all lead the best of Nova Scotia’s music this year with five Music Nova Scotia Award nominations each.
Carmen Townsend is nominated for Entertainer and Female Artist of the Year and her debut album, Waitin’ and Seein’ is nominated for New Artist Recording, Rock Recording and Recording of the Year.
Jenn Grant is nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Female Artist of the Year. Her latest album, Honeymoon Punch is nominated for Recording of the Year. She I s nominated for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year with her song, “How I Met You” and her video for “Getcha Good”, directed by Andrew Stretch, is nominated for Music Video of the Year.
Jimmy Rankin’s album, Forget about the world is nominated for Country and Bluegrass Recording, Male Artist Recording and Recording of the Year. Rankin is also nominated for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year with his song, “Here in my Heart” and he is also up for Entertainer of the Year.
Ryan Cook’s album, Peaks & Valleys is nominated for four Music Nova Scotia Awards: Country and Bluegrass Recording, Male Recording and Recording of the Year and his song, “Gaspereau Valley”, gives him a nomination in the SOCAN Songwriter category.
Three nominations each go to Laura Peek, We’re Doomed, Three Sheet, David Myles, Slowcoaster, J-Bru and Scott Macmillan.
Two nominations each go to Armada Drive, Norma MacDonald, Jenny MacDonald, Christina Martin, Keith Mullins, Scientists of Sound, Molly Thomason, Ruth Minnikin, Kim Wempe, Zac Crouse, Shelter With Thieves, Something Good, Gloryhound, Quake, Stone Mary, Dave Gunning, JRDN, Brian Doyle, Cassie and Maggie MacDonald.
One nomination each goes to Kuato, Ryan MacGrath, Dan Doiron, The Hupman Brothers Band, Aselin Debison, The Modern Grass Quartet, Ghettochild, DJ IV, DJ Y-Rush, Petey Punch, Uncle Fester, Snug, Minus World, Mat Trouble, Ambition, Orchid’s Curse, The Stanfields, Gypsophilia, Jordi Comstock, Kev Corbett, Kevin Fox, Adam Fine, Jay Smith, Tanya Davis, Pogey, Kenneth and Angus MacKenzie, A’drian S and Dutch Robinson.

Award nominees are selected by juries of industry professionals from the Music Nova Scotia membership. Electronic voting will begin today, September 6 until September 29. Email notices will be sent to all eligible members of Music Nova Scotia, who will vote on the award winners.
The awards will be handed out at the Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards Brunch, which will be held on Sunday, November 6 at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth. Awards will also be handed out at the NSLC Music Nova Scotia Gala Awards Show, which will take place at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre on Sunday, November 6.
