Fabulous family group from The Maritimes
Reviewer: Gillian from Canada

The Rankins debut record is fabulous. There is such a mix of music on it. From traditional Scottish songs sung in Gaelic, original songs by Jimmy Rankin to wonderful instrumental medleys. One of the most beautiful songs on the album is the 'Lament of the Irish Immigrant', a traditional Irish song written by Lady Dufferin. It is sung solo and unaccompanied by one of the Rankin women. Beautiful! I highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys good music.

Unique Celtic sound from the Maritimes...
Reviewer: moon_city from Seattle, WA

This is the first Rankin Family CD I ever got hold of, and as far as I am concerned, they have yet to surpass it.

In more recent recordings, the Rankins have leaned more towards pop, and even country on occasion. However, this album is a wonderful collection of Celtic music as interpreted by the Irish/Scots/British descendents of those who settled in Maritime Canada.

Classic traditional Irish laments mix with spirited jigs and reels, and there are glorious Celtic soundscapes in between. There is not the New Age quality of Nightnoise or Enya. This sound is more traditional, yet with the unique harmonies that happen only when siblings join vocal forces.

If you like the Celtic sound and have the chance to latch onto this CD, you won't regret it.
